Cruises in Japan and Southeast Asia
Asian cruises offer the opportunity to explore the most fascinating places in this unique region. That is why the classic cruise through Southeast Asia is called the "Asian Pearls." Just as a grain of sand inside a shell becomes a priceless pearl, each port on the cruise is either a UNESCO World Heritage site or at least one of the most interesting destinations in its country. Cruises through Southeast Asia typically start in China or Singapore.
Asia is silence. Asia is restraint and dignity. Asia is majestic temples and dragons, countless armies of powerful emperors, and cherry blossom petals drifting over the water. Asia is another world, another perception of reality.
First there were drawings. Then they became diagrams. Later, they transformed into characters. And now, observing traditional Asian architecture, it sometimes seems as if the characters are intricately woven into the reality from which they once emerged.
Asia is calmness. Absolute and eternal. Mysterious, like the smile of a reclining Buddha. And just as focused and introspective.
Moreover, Asia is a journey. An endless journey of self-discovery and refinement, thousands of movements in Wushu schools leading to harmony. Years of creative work and the art of patience.

Every trip to Asia feels like a journey to another world. One night on the plane, and you’re on a completely different planet. A polite bow means "welcome." From now on, people will bow and smile at you at every step. Even when they say "no," they’ll never say it directly…
If your journey starts in China, it begins in Beijing. Beijing is one of China’s four ancient capitals and, unlike the other three, it remains the country’s main city to this day. Here, tourists can enjoy a rich pre-cruise program, visiting the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and all the main sights. Additionally, excursions take you to the Great Wall of China, so massive that it can even be seen from space.
The next port, Busan, is a mystery. In Korean, its name conveys energy and cheerfulness. Here, all historical landmarks are carefully preserved, from ancient monasteries overlooking the sea to the famous Busan Tower with panoramic views of the city. When the ship docks in Nagasaki, you might expect a memorial city, a city frozen in memory. But instead, you find a vibrant modern city spread over rolling hills. Of course, there is a memorial, but it is not the main focus. You’ll discover Japan’s oldest stone bridge, a Dutch-style garden, narrow alleys, bustling markets, and shipyards… Perhaps the real mystery is that what you see is nothing like what you expected—and yet it exceeds all your wildest expectations.
After Nagasaki, the liner heads to Shanghai, China’s largest city. Looking at its magnificent streets, skyscrapers, and bridges, it’s hard to believe that just a hundred years ago, wooden shacks crowded this same space. Hong Kong only returned to China in 1997; before that, it was under British rule. It is said that departing from Hong Kong at dusk, when the city sparkles with a cascade of evening lights, is one of the most beautiful sights on the cruise. One of Vietnam’s largest cities, Ho Chi Minh City, preserves traces of its communist past, yet at the same time, this modern city feels like a twin of Moscow.
But even Ho Chi Minh pales in comparison to Bangkok. Did you know that a hundred years ago, a Russian woman was married to a Siamese prince, and their son could have become king? You’ll surely hear this fascinating story while visiting the Royal Palace, one of many attractions in Thailand’s capital. The cruise ends in Singapore, a city-state symbolized by the Merlion—a half-fish, half-lion that once “scorched” its enemies. In the latter half of the 20th century, the Merlion directed its fiery gaze at corruption. The rule of law became Singapore’s guiding principle, making it one of the most prosperous and beautiful cities in Southeast Asia.
Beyond the classic Southeast Asia cruises, the Sapphire Princess 5* Lux also sails to the islands of Indonesia, Brunei, and even Cambodia. This is because Princess Cruises remains faithful to its motto: “In every region of the world, our liner will be either the largest or the newest!” In this way, the Asian region is almost fully represented. Why “almost”? Because the sister ship, Diamond Princess 5* Lux, operates cruises around Japan.
Diamond Princess 5* Lux… When the ship docks in Nagasaki, almost the entire city comes out to greet it. No wonder! This stunning white beauty was built right here at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries shipyards. Diamond Princess 5* Lux and Sapphire Princess 5* Lux are the largest passenger ships in Japan. It’s no surprise that one of them is entirely dedicated to cruising around Japan.
Over 150 years ago, in some remote Japanese provinces… you could have lost your head if you were a commoner who failed to greet a samurai. Today, Japan is one of the most modern—and, despite the many tourists, most mysterious—countries in the world. Japan is like a Stone Garden: no matter which direction you look, you can never see all the stones. But you absolutely must try!
Almost all Japanese cruises depart from Yokohama, near Tokyo. From there, everyone can choose the cruise that suits them best: “National Parks of Japan, Sapporo, and Sakhalin,” or “All Temples, Onsens, and Geysers,” visiting the Inland Sea and the most remarkable natural attractions, or perhaps “Volcanoes and Temples of Ancient Japan,” where the name says it all. Did you know that Japan’s population is almost equal to that of Russia? There are 127 million people living here. So while visiting temples, gardens, museums, and palaces… you’ll be amazed by everything: from the meticulous care and order of every square centimeter of land to the fact that every single Japanese person you ask for help will sincerely try not only to answer your question but also to make your experience in their country as enjoyable as possible.
You could travel to Japan endlessly, yet transportation in the country is quite expensive. That’s why the best way to see a lot for a very reasonable price has always been—and remains—a cruise. And of course, any Asian cruise, whether it’s the classic “Asian Pearls” or “Volcanoes and Temples of Ancient Japan,” should always be booked together with a land program.
